Rachel L. SparkeDVM, CVA
Dr. Sparke is a graduate of The Ohio State University with Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 2001 and Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine with Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She arrived at Roseland Animal Hospital in 2007 and considers South Bend her home. Her parents and grandmother are also living in South Bend. Dr. Sparke has special interest in veterinary acupuncture/traditional chinese medicine, ultrasound, and nutrition/wellness. She is married to Jay, Practice Manager for Roseland Animal Hospital. They have four beautiful children, 3 dogs, and chickens. She enjoys the great outdoors, running, obstacle race courses, and most other athletic opportunities.
Most recently Dr. Sparke has expanded her veterinary knowledge by attending the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, FL learning more detail about the biology of bearded dragons, reptile dermatology, ferret emergencies and anesthesia, alternative formulas for oncology patients, guinea pig dental abscesses, the role of hormones in canine behavior, and TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) treatments for IVDD, Wobbler, and Degenerative Myelopathy.
Dr. Thomas Maske joined the practice in June of 2012. He attended the University of Illinois as an animal science major. He continued his education at the University of Illinois and earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in May of 2012. Dr. Thomas enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but holds special interest in internal medicine, surgery and ophthalmology. He resides in the South Bend area with his wife, Emily, three lovely daughters, and cat, Sadie. Dr. Thomas enjoys hiking, fishing, and camping.
Dr. Maske recently spent time continuing his education in veterinary medicine at the AVMA conference in Denver, CO where he acquired additional information on canine and feline lymphoma, heartworm disease pathophysiology and pathology, feline gingivostomatitis, and a wetlab using our endoscopy unit for rhinoscopy (nose), laryngoscopy (throat), and bronchoscopy (airway).
Dr. Christina Desjeunes received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2008 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 2013. She is passionate about exotic animal pets and completed a one year specialty internship in exotic, wildlife, and zoo animal medicine with the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in June of 2014. When not working, you’ll find Dr. D reading a good book, drawing, or taking ballet classes. She is currently owned by her two cats, Jynx and Bella, and a dachshund, Cookie.
*Dr. D has expanded her life and home to include her husband, Tim and their beautiful daughter born in 2019.
Dr. Stefanie Reed attended Augustana College in Illinois for undergraduate studies in biology and psychology. She then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 2015. Dr. Reed has special interests in radiology, ophthalmology and the fear-free philosophy of handling cats and dogs. Outside of work, she spends most of her free time hiking with her Labrador mix Lacey May or mountain biking throughout Northern Indiana and Michigan. In addition, she loves horseback, obstacle runs, and outdoor adventuring. Dr. Reed also volunteers with an animal rescue organization that specialized in technical small and large animal rescue during disasters or accidents.
Erika First, DVMVeterinarian
Dr. First graduated from Michigan State University in 2015 after double majoring in Animal Science and Fisheries & Wildlife. She then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2019. She enjoys working with cats, dogs, and pocket pets, and has a soft spot for geriatric animals. Outside of traditional veterinary medicine she also has an interest in aquaculture medicine, and has completed her CertAqV through the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. First lives in the South Bend area with her significant other and their charismatic tuxedo cat, Caesar. Dr. First’s hobbies include hiking, photography, arts and crafts, and playing ice hockey. She also has the goal of visiting every US National Park, and has visited over 20 parks so far!
Jay SparkeOffice Manager
Jay joined Roseland Animal Hospital in 2012 and is our Practice Manager and Human Resources Manager. He is married to Dr. Sparke and they have 4 children, Gavin, Garrett, Kellsie and Kenzie. In his free time, Jay enjoys fishing, camping, and sports.
Christi NiespodzianyCSS and Pharmacy Technician
Christi has been employed with Roseland Animal Hospital since 2003. She fulfills roles as a Client Service Specialist and as our Pharmacy Assistant. Christi and her son Aiden have 3 dogs, Lexi, Hershey, Izzy, 1 snake, Batman, and 2 goldfish, Goldie and Toni Hawk. They enjoy spending time at the lake, beach, and boating.
Rose FleischmannVeterinary Technician/Assistant
Rose began working with us in 2004. Rose is currently completing her education as a veterinary technician through AAHA. Together with her husband Brian they have 3 cats, Boomer, Misty Meezer, and Farm Guy. Rose enjoys NASCAR and spending time with her feline family members.
Aubrey began working at Roseland Animal Hospital in April of 2009. Altough she has held several positions with us here, she currently works as a Client Service Specialist. With her husband, James, Aubrey has a home filled with a varity of pets large and small. Aubrey enjoys photography and volunteers her time with Pet Refuge.
Nicole VanHulleRVT, Hospital Supervisor
Nicole has been at Roseland since 2014. She is a Registered Veterinary Technician and our Hospital Supervisor. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University in Animal Science and her Veterinary Technician degree from Brown Mackie College. She owns a ball python and when not at the clinic she enjoys hiking, biking, and relaxing by the lake with her husband Chris and their dog Remington.
Kiera RichardsPet Care Specialist & Boarding Attendant
Kiera was excited to join the team at Roseland Animal Hospital. Within the coming year she is determined to go back to school and become a veterinary technician. She owns one miniature schnauzer, Duchess, and a mouse, Mitsu. Her spare time is dedicated to volunteering at the Humane Society, drawing, spending time outdoors and of course being with her friends, family and fiancé. Kiera joined our team in 2017.
Kim Van Overberghe, RVTVeterinary Technician
Kim is a Registered Veterinary Technician whom joined Roseland Animal Hospital in 2017. She gradutated from Brown Mackie's Veterinary Technician program in 2010. Kim and her husband Eric have four children, Autumn, Brayden, Chloe and Deklen. They also have many pets including cats Max, Sam, Ruby, and McRibb, dogs Jasper and Willy, a snake named Boba, a crested gecko named Geckie, and a rat named Peabody. Kim enjoys watching movies and camping with her family.
Megan Van OverberghePet Care Specialist
Megan began working at Roseland Animal Hospital in June of 2017 as a pet care specialist. Megan spends most of her time at work as our Surgery Assistant. She is a proud owner of a beautiful Doberman Pinscher. In her free time she does makeup and enjoys relaxing with her family, and watching Netflix.
Jamie FernaldPet Care Specialist
Jamie hopped aboard the RAH team in 2018 and quickly became integral in making our examination rooms flow. You'll find Jamie helping your pet get situated for their visit and making sure that your questions get answered. In her free time Jamie enjoys being with her children and her pets. She has dogs, cats and goats!
Jennifer recently moved to South Bend and joined the RAH team in 2018. You will find her kind voice answering the telephone and welcoming you through our front doors. Jennifer has a lovely golden dog named Ruby that joined her family this year as well.
Carrington BoydPet Care Specialist
Carrington joined the RAH team in 2016. While her career aspirations took her in a different direction she continued to maintain a working relationship with us here in Roseland. Carrington can be found helping your pet into an examination room, talking with clients about their concerns for their pets, and helping the doctors tend to patient needs.
Katie FBoarding Attendant
Katie joined our team in 2019. She has a large collection of pets in her home to include 1 German Shepherd, 1 Chinese Crested, 3 cats, 1 sugar glider, 1 hamster, and 3 show rabbits. Katie has plans to attend Penn Foster to complete a degree as a RVT. In her spare time you can find Katie playing videogames, listening to classic rock, and spending time with family.
